Golf Swing Instructional Tips; Keep An Even Knee Level During Your Swing

One of the most important golf swing instructional tips is to keep your knees level during your gold swing.

The reason why this is one of the most significant golf swing instructional tips is that if you lower or raise one knee more or less than the other during your golf swing you will rotate the alignment and path of your club face to produce a different ball flight.

One of the most frequent reasons why golfers do not maintain an even knee level during their golf swing is tending to lower their left should too much during their swing.

Any change in the  plane of the shoulder turn correspondingly will impact the level of the knee flex during the swing.

Although there necessarily must be some tilt of the shoulders during the golf swing one should think of turning the shoulders more on a level plane, at least in terms of a “swing thought.”

Worse, however, than lowering the left shoulder too much during the back swing which is typically causes a reverse pivot and in turn changes the alignment and path of the club face is the tendency of some golfers to straighten their right leg and lock their right knee joint during their back swing.

This is indeed a fatal flaw in any golf swing.

Not only does it change the alignment and path of the club face, it makes it almost impossible to re-flex the knees to an even level during the downswing.

As a result, the shoulders come “over the top” during the downswing to produce the ole banana ball—the typical slice of many recreational and weekend golfers.

Equally as bad in terms of failing to keep an even knee flex during the golf swing is the tendency of some golfers to straighten their left leg and lock their left knee joint during their downswing.

This likewise changes the alignment and path of the club face and produces a different ball flight than otherwise.

Assuming you had established a square alignment and an on line swing path (plane) of your clubface as you began your downswing—which would produce a straight golf shot— but then at the last moment before impact, you straightened your left leg.

You would rotate the alignment and path of your club face and produce something other than a straight golf shot.

So, once again, one of the best golf swing instructional tips is to keep your knees level during your swing in order to hit your golf ball straight.

Tips On Golf Swing: Select A Very Narrow And Specific Target For Your Drives

how to hit your golf balll straight and farOne of the most significant tips on golf swing is to select a very narrow and specific target from which to define your target line for your drives.

These tips on golf swing also apply to fairway and approach shots.

Most older golf swing instruction emphasized the importance of selecting a very specific target from which to define the target line. Such  instructions then suggested you should locate some marking, such as a discoloration of a blade of grass, a twig or other such item about three feet in front of your ball and, directly on the target line,  to be used as what is termed the intermediate target.

Even though this seems to have been the most popular golf method in aligning the shoulders parallel with the target line in the Palmer-Nicklaus era, I do not observe many golfers using this alignment technique theses days.

What you observe more often nowadays is to select a very narrow and specific target in the distance and simply align the shoulders parallel with the target line without focusing on an intermediate target.

Here is a portion of a recent article about the more modern alignment method:

“Another way to improve your accuracy off the tee is to select something way down the fairway to aim at. This can be a specific tree or other promenent object, and use this as your point of aim or where you want the ball to go. So many golfers just see the entire width of the fairway and play their drive to simply stay within the fairway. For more accuracy you want to actually aim at something in particular, like the tree or any object that narrows down where you are trying to put your drive. This is a very good way to increase your accuracy because even if you do not ‘hit’  the point of aim your ball will still be safely within the confines of the fairway. And always play in a relaxed manner. If you get all tightened up on the tee you might as well stay in the clubhouse and watch TV!” Read more…onlinegolfswingtips.com/golf-swing-tips-for-accuracy/#comment-642.

Whether you simply focus on the selected target itself or some intermediate target, the target should be as specifi and narrow as possible.

Unless you select a very specific and narrow target for your drives, your target becomes about  20 degrees or more of target variance. Typically, if your drive flies more than 10 degrees from the middle of the fairway, you are in the rough to the left or right of the short grass, perhaps in a hazard or out of bounds.

Once you begin to select a more specific and narrow target from which to define your target line, whether for your drives, fairway shots or, for your approach to a green, you will agree that doing so remains one of the best tips on golf swing, ever.

How to Hit A golf Ball Straight With A Driver: The Secret Behind Jim Furyk’s Straight Shooting Golf

how to hit a golf ball straight with a driverIf you want to know how to hit a golf ball straight with a driver you need to understand the secret behind Jim Furyk’s golf swing.

If you learn to grip your club in the same manner as Jim Furyk you will soon experience how to hit a golf ball straight with a driver.

Ironically, I doubt that Jim Furyk even knows the secret behind his straight shooting swing.

Irrespective, I do know the secret behind his unique golf method.

After many years of research and thousands of experiments I discovered many years ago that the instant you grip a club in a conventional manner, with either an overlapping, interlocking or baseball style of grip, your club face will rotate to an open alignment and to an out-to-in path or essentially, to a slice alignment.

Professional players and low amateur players have learned through trial and error how to manipulate the club in some way after gripping it in a conventional manner to deliver a square club face to the ball at impact on a path that matches their shoulder line to hit a straight golf shot.

This instinctive manipulation sometimes occurs before the golf swing, sometimes during the golf swing or during a combination of both. sometimes they are successful and sometimes not.

However, there are some alternative ways to grip a golf club that lock-in a square alignment and an on-line swing path the instant such a grip is assumed.

I have discovered more than eight ways to grip a club in such a manner that locks-in a square alignment and an on line swing path. I address these in the book, How To Lock-In A Perfect Golf Grip, which is available at http://lockedingolf.com.

In addition to the eight I instruct how to perform, Jim Furyk’s “double overlapping” grip also locks-in a square alignment and an on-line swing path of his club face.

It is the secret behind his ability to hit straight golf shots.

Instead of just overlapping the little finger of his right hand atop the groove between the index and middle fingers of his left hand to form a grip on his club, he overlaps the little finger of his right hand atop the groove between the ring and middle fingers of his left hand and, overlaps the ring finger of his right hand atop the groove between the index and middle fingers of his left hand.

He then docks the lifeline of his right hand squarely and securely on his left thumb to complete his grip.

If he then assumes a comfortable stance and posture to his ball, centers the sweet spot of his club face as near as possible to the back of his ball, aligns his shoulders parallel with his target line, keeps his left heel planted, maintains eye contact with the ball and executes a non-manipulative golf swing, his ball will fly straight, discounting wind conditions and elevation differences between his stance and ball.

The loop in his swing occurs because he stands so near the ball in his address position.

This is not necessary however.

Even if he stood farther from the ball with this type of grip he would nonetheless hit the ball straight as long as he performed the pre-swing steps  described above and executed a non-manipulative golf swing.

However, it is sometimes necessary to curve golf shots instead of hitting them straight, due to wind conditions, etc.

The “double overlapping” grip is not conducive to shaping golf shots which handicaps Jim Furyk when facing such conditions.

Nonetheless, there is a simple adjustment to the “double overlapping” grip that can lock-in either a draw or a fade alignment, neither of which Furyk is aware, apparently.

In the book, How To Lock-In A Perfect Golf Grip, and other Locked-In Golf™ books I have written I share some of the mechanisms to adjust a locked-in straight alignment to a locked-in fade or draw alignment.

Once you learn how to perform them you will know more than just how to hit a golf ball straight with a driver

Golf Swing Instructions: Should Women Adopt A Wider Stance?

golf swing tipSome golf swing instructions suggest that women should adopt a wider stance.

Some say that such golf swing instructions are provided because women can turn their hips more fluidly with a wider stance because the have wider hips than men, all things considered.

Here is a portion of a recent article that endorses such golf swing tips:

“Solid stance is a solid foundation. It is now accepted that women play differently than men when it comes to golf. If you see professional female players at the fairway, you will immediately notice their stance; their legs are more far apart and wider than their shoulders. And most women who do use a wider stance were able to be better in their game and were more comfortable with better balance and wider hip-width rations.” Read more…perfectgolfswingx.com/a-wider-stance-for-women-golfers.

Whether women will be better able tohit the golf ball straighter and farther with a wider stance is debatable. However, I do agree with the article on the point that a wider stance enables a golfer to be better balanced during the golf swing.

Generally speaking, I recommend most golfers should widen their stance to match the inside of the shoulders at the armpits for shorter clubs and widen them incrementally up to the point that the feet are even with the outside of the shoulders for the longest clubs in a set in order to hit the best golf shots.

The one advantage of a narrower stance is that you should be able to turn your hips and shoulders more during your back swing. The disadvantage is that the narrower stance the the more difficult it is to stay balance during a simple golf swing.

Obviously, the more you widen your stance the less your will be able to turn fully on your back swing but the easier it will be  to maintain your balance.

Thus, it becomes a matter of balancing the two extremes.

In terms of the best golf swing instructions on the issue, you should practice with different stance widths until you are comfortable in your ability  to maximize your shoulder turn and hip rotation while staying balance during your golf swing.

Golf Swing Tips: Use Swing Thoughts Wisely

how to drive a straight golf ballWhen discussing golf swing tips the question frequently arises: do swing thoughts work?

My take is that very limited swing thoughts do work to improve your golf game and lower your handicap and, are some of the best golf swing tips available.

Nonetheless many instructors question whether swing thoughts really work. They do not necessarily buy in to the idea that it is a good golf technique.

Here is a portion of a recent article on the issue.

“Typically when a golfer goes to the driving range to practice or to the course to play a round, he or she has been taught that having one swing thought to focus on will help them perform. This by its very nature goes against other traditional teaching that asks the golfer to simply play golf without any thoughts. Which approach is the best? ” Read more…geareffectgolf.com/golf/value-in-a-swing-tip/.

I do not subscribe to such swing thoughts as ”keep your left arm straight, take the club here or there during your golf swing, keep your head up during your swing, etc.”

However, I do believe in very limited swing thoughts on which you to focus.

There are three on which I focus to help me hit the golf ball straight, improve my golf swing and lower my golf scores.

1. Keep my left heel planted during the swing.

If you raise your left heel from the surface during your back swing it is very difficult to re-plant it timely in order to maintain balance and tempo during the through swing. It is a simple discipline to keep that left heel planted during the swing. After a while, it becomes almost a subconscious swing thought.

2. Keep a steady head during the back swing.

A steady head in combination with a planted left heel keeps your body weight inside your feet. If you sway your body weight to the outside of your right foot during your back swing, all bets are off in terms of your being able to return the cace of the club properly to th ball at impact. This takes a conscious effort with every swing.

3. Swing the club until your left shoulder firmly touches your chin on your backs swing.

This allows you to make a complete swing. Anything short of a complete back swing will cost you a lot of distance. This also requires a conscious effort with every full swing.

Focus on just these three swing thoughts because they are some of the very best golf swing tips to be found anywhere.

Golf Swing Tips: Five Easy Ways To Hit Your Golf Ball Higher

golf swing lesson instructionsOne of the best golf swing tips is to know is how to increase the height of your ball flight.

The reason why this is one of the best golf swing tips is the need to increase the trajectory of your ball in many instances in a round of golf.

One reason you may want to increase the height of your trajectory is to flight your approach shot to an elevated green.

Obviously, if you know how to increase the height of your ball you will be able to improve your golf swing.

Recently I was having difficulty hitting my three wood as high as I wanted.

So, I merely reflected on the ways I could increase the height of my ball flight when using my three wood, whether I was hitting a fade, draw or straight golf shots.

I had several choices and could use as many as I needed to attain the precise height I desired.

First, I could play the ball more forward in my stance: that is to say, more off the inside of my left foot rather than opposite the logo on my golf shirt.

Typically, when you play your ball more forward in your stance,  you should be able to hit your ball higher, all things considered.

Second, I could widen my stance to attain a higher ball flight with my three wood.

Usually, when you widen your stance more than routine, you will be able to increase the height of your ball flight, all things considered..

Thirdly, I could stand farther from the ball to increase the height of my ball flight when hitting my three wood.

Normally, when you stand farther than routine from your ball, you will be able to hit your ball higher, all things considered.

Also, I could increase the club head speed of my three wood and hit my ball higher.

By hitting your ball harder as a result of increasing your club head speed you should be able to increase the height of your ball flight, all things considered.

The last way to hit your ball higher is to ensure the face of your club contacts your ball squarely at impact on a path that matches your target line.

A square clubface at impact on a path that matches your target line typically will increase the height of your ball in comparison with a shaped golf shot such as a draw or hook.

One way to ensure your clubface contacts your ball squarely at impact on a path that matches your target line is to perform one of the more than 100 techniques featured on the website, Locked In Golf.com, to hit a golf ball straight as an arrow.

Once you lock-in a straight ball flight alignment by performing one of the Locked-In Golf™ techniques, all that remains will be to assume a comfortable stance to your ball, center the sweet spot of your clubface as near as possible to the back of your ball and align your shoulders parallel with your target line.

Then keep a steady head, planted left heel, execute a simple golf swing and watch your ball fly on a straight path to your target.

Then you should agree this to be one of the best golf swing tips you have ever received.

TIPS FOR GOLF SWING: CHECK FOR WATER IN THE CUP

golf swing instructionsOne of the best tips for golf swing is to inspect the putting cup for any water before beginning your putt.

The reason why this suggestion is one of the best tips for golf swing is that it will provide you with information about the amount of moisture on the green.

Moisture on a green will slow down the roll of your putt; the more water in the cup the more moisture on the green and the more moisture on the green, the slower the roll of the putt.

It will impact a short putt as well as a long putt.

If your inspection of the cup reveals there is several inches of water in it, you will need to take your putter head back from your ball much further than usual.

For example, when I use my Locked-In Putting System™, one of the best golf methods for putts of more than four paces, I square my putter head on my aim line to the back of my ball, lock my right elbow to my right rib cage and keep it locked in such manner, keep my head steady and take my putter head back until the outside edge of my watch band intersects with the back of the ball from my line of vision –for putts of approximately 8 paces on a flat and dry surface– before beginning my forward stroke of the putt.

However, if there is an appreciable amount of water in the cup—meaning a lot of moisture on the green –I will take my putter head back until the inside edge of my watch band intersects the back of my ball from my line of vision,  before beginning my forward stroke of the putt.

You also should keep in mine that if there is a lot of moisture on a green and you are faced with an uphill putt, you should take your putter head back that much more than usual because the combination of an uphill putt and moisture on a green will appreciably slow the roll of the putt.

Therefore, please remember to inspect the putting cup on a green before stroking your putt and make adjustments in how much further you will need to take your putter head back from the ball to compensate for the moisture.

If you have been rolling putts short  because of moisture on a green you may find this information to be some of the best tips for golf swing ever. It is one of the very best golf putting tips.

You should have some may to measure how far back you should take your putter head back relative to the distance between the ball and the cup.

I use the Locked-In Putting System™ for such purpose. You will find information about the Locked-In Putting System™ at http://lockedinputting.com

Tips For Golf Swing:Putt From The Fringe

tips for golf swingYou should consider putting your ball to the cup when you find yourself on the fringe of a green. It continues to be one of the best tips for golf swing.

However, if you are in the rough near the green, one of the best tips for golf swing would be to pitch your golf shot instead of attempting to putt it to the cup.

Many golfers have been taught to pitch or chip their ball toward the cup when it lies on the fringe of a green.

Nonetheless, the odds of your ball finishing near the hole, if not within the hole, are much more favorable when putting instead of pitching or chipping it in such a situation.

If you have any doubt as to which is the best golf method, simply place 10 balls in the same vicinity of the fringe surrounding a given green.

First, pitch or chip the 10 balls toward the hole location and observe how far they end up in relation to the cup.

Then, putt the 10 balls from the same location of the fringe and observe where they stop rolling in relation to the cup.

Unless you have a superb ability to pitch or chip your shots near the pin from the fringe, you should observe your putts finishing nearer the cup than your pitch or chip shots. It is a better golf method.

This is why putting from the fringe instead of pitching or chipping your shots from the fringe continues to be one of the best tips for golf swing.

Golf Swing Instructions: How to Drive A Golf Ball Straight

golf swing instructionsThe best golf swing instructions are to learn how to drive your golf ball straight.

I know of no more significant golf swing instructions than to drive your ball as straight as an arrow down the middle of the fairway.

If you do not know how to drive a golf ball straight you cannot play a quality round of golf.

Most would agree that the driver is the most difficult club to hit in terms of producing  a straight drive. Even robots like the historic Iron Byron produced a significant amount of dispersion when hitting drivers,

Considering all the dispersion associated with the driver and the difficulty of swinging the longest club in the set, what then is the most reliable way of hitting straight golf shots?

You will not find the solution in golf magazines or on the Golf Channel because the typical instruction to hit a ball straight is to first stand to the ball in a certain way with a specific posture and the ball placed in a precise manner in your stance.

Then the instruction turns to manipulating the club to the inside or to the outside of the target line in an attempt to square the clubface to the ball at impact.

If your posture, ball placement or stance is not perfect, the ball will not fly straight. Likewise, it suggests that if the club is not swung in the precise manner instructed, the clubface will not square itself to the ball at impact.

THIS DOES NOT SOUND VERY ENCOURAGING

TO DRIVE A GOLF BALL STRAIGHT

The best golf method is to lock-in a square alignment and an on line swing path of your clubface during your pre-shot proceedings, setup correctly to your ball and simply execute a regular golf swing. If locked-in correctly, your clubface alignment and its swing path will remain locked-in during your setup proceedings irrespective of your stance or posture to your ball.

They also will remain locked-in during your golf swing.

Once locked-in, all that is required is to center the sweet spot of your clubface directly behind your ball, assume a comfortable posture and stance to your balland align your shoulders parallel with your target line. Then keep your head steady and execute a simple golf swing.

Then watch one drive after another fly on a

straight path down the middle of the fairway.
